Stratford New World Colts were away to New Plymouth Old Boys on Saturday in a game which we really needed to stay on our game for the full 80 minutes.
Right from the first whistle the boys were into their work and it wasn't long before our forwards got prop Zach Tracey over for his first of two tries. Our set pieces were improving and the backs were making big meters when we sent the ball wide.
We dominated the first half running in 6 unanswered tries including one to big centre Luke Dean from just over halfway he was given a beautiful ball and ran at the line busting through a couple of tackles then carried on to score the try, with 2 tries converted we went into second half with a 34-0 lead.
The second half started with NPOB looking like they were going to come back at us as they lifted their intensity and started to build some phases together, to our boys credit they lifted their game and defended well and didn't let them build up any real pressure on us and every time we responded by sending them packing back into their half. NPOB ran out of options and were taking tap and go penalties from inside their own 22 as we continued to stifle anything they tried. We ran in another 3 unanswered tries in what was an awesome display of what the team is capable of if we stay focussed and communicate for the full 80 minutes. Stand out players Matt Holden, Josh Trott, Luke Dean, Cody Ussher, Shane Denham, and Jarred Thompson. I could write the whole team down as it was a great team effort including the guys off the bench who came on and kept the momentum going foward. Final score 49-0.
