Equestrian: Rebels take second

The Stratford Pony Club's Red Rebels team beat 13 other teams to place second at the New Zealand Pony Club Mounted Games Zone 3 Championship held in Stratford last weekend.

Stratford Red Rebels coach Vanessa Hopgood says mounted games require "a high degree of athletic ability, good riding skills, hand-to-eye co-ordination, determination, perseverance and a competitive spirit".

"Our team definitely brought all those attributes to the championship to scoop second place in a tough fought competition"

She said home town advantage certainly favoured the Rebels with plenty of supporters to cheer them on.

The Awesome Ashurst team were first with Puketapu Panthers third and Stratford's nemesis, the New Plymouth Knights, fourth.
