Nebulite Taranaki Flyers swim squad of 16 competed strongly at the Bay of Plenty short course swimming championships over the weekend, taking 11 gold, 13 silver and six bronze medals and collectively 96 personal best times and two Taranaki records.
The meet attracted 220 competitors from the Bay of Plenty, Hawke's Bay, Taranaki and Waikato regions.
Joshua Gilbert (11 years) slashed 6 seconds off his own Taranaki record, set in 2011, in the 200m breaststroke with a time of 2.52.59.
In the 200m medley his time of 2.41.75 set a new record time lowering the 2.42.70 set by Julian Weir of Stratford in 2007.
Heading the medal count is 10-year-old Claudia Taylor with six gold and one silver; 12-year-old Chris Johnson with three gold, one silver and two bronze; and Cormach Hughson-How with seven silver and one bronze.
