ON Sunday March 29, 10 hopefuls from around Taranaki were invited to trial for one of the eight places in the Taranaki Pony Club Horse Trials Team to compete in the New Zealand Championships in Auckland later this month.
The team consists of three riding members from the age group of 16 years and under, and three riding members for 17-21 years, as well as an un-mounted reserve for each group.
This year, two members from the Stratford Pony Club, Mackenzie Bellringer and Courtney Newton, made the team, with Mackenzie gaining captaincy.
Hannah Trott, who resides in Inglewood, but attends the Waitara Pony Club, also made the team as reserve for 16 and under. The other team members, Alicia Burton, Caroline Beekman, Darelle Martin, Anna Hinton and Kimberly Kalin come from Pony Clubs such as New Plymouth, Oakura and Okato.
The team will travel to Auckland on April 15 to compete on April 17-18 against a number of teams from across New Zealand.
Next year, the championships will be held in Taranaki at the Hawera A&P; Showgrounds and there is already a huge amount of work underway in preparation for this event.
