WITH THE rugby season now in full swing the Toko Rugby Club has high hopes for another successful season.
Having won the McDonald Real Estate Taranaki Rugby Senior Reserve Championships three out of the last four years, Toko is looking to regain their title.
Toko is the only club between Inglewood and Hawera to have a senior reserves team and welcomes all players. The team is coached by Wayne Salisbury, with co-captains, Chris Paterson and Johnny Five helping to lead the 27- strong squad.
Chris is also the player-president of the club and Wayne the secretary. Other committee members are Andrew Puck (club captain), Vaughan Jones and Sam Coplestone.
The club's goal this year is to play good rugby and have fun. "Our philosophy is no matter who you are, if you bring your boots you get to play. We enjoy teaching players technique, the rules, and everything in between. If they are keen to learn, we will help them," said committee member Sam Coplestone.
The rugby club celebrated their centennial in 2005 and are still going strong thanks to their loyal supporters. Toko Rugby Club is proudly supported by Philip Morressey Livestock, Ancare, Taranaki Farmers, Central Tyres, Kevin Davis Panelbeaters, Hintz Contracting, Ian Oliver Contracting and many more local businesses.
The club would like to thank all of their sponsors, big and small, because without their continued support, the club wouldn't continue to grow.
The club recently installed a children's playground at the rugby grounds to expand on their family entertainment atmosphere. The club would like to thank all of the volunteers that helped install the play set, as well as Groundworkx Stratford for donating the bark.
Head out to Toko this weekend and enjoy a good game of rugby.
