Children from Makahu, Marco, Midhirst, Ngaere, Pembroke, Rawhitiroa, Toko and Huiakama Schools were pitted against each other last Monday, as part of the Jones Cup.
The 2007 event was held at Toko School, and netball, rugby and rippa rugby teams from the schools had a fun day competing against each other.
The philosophy of the Jones Cup revolves around inclusion and getting every child from Year 3-8 involved, whether or not they play weekend rugby or netball, in a mixed ability team.
The Jones Cup is great for encouraging students to have a go, learning about team spirit and networking with students from other rural schools. On the day, Toko Gold won the senior netball, Eastern Districts, the intermediate netball and Midhirst Monkeys, the junior netball.
In rugby, Ngaere Purple took out the senior grade with the Midhirst Stormers and Ngaere Gold winning the intermediate and junior grades respectively.
