Two Whanganui 10-year-olds have achieved a rare honour for the local squash scene as Aria Bannister and Thor Darlington have been named in the Central Squash representative team to play Eastern Squash in Palmerston North next weekend.
From Durie Hill School and St Anne's respectively, Bannister and Darlington are among four players chosen for the Under 11 grade, with the wider squad playing matches from Under 11 to Under 19 level.
They are coached by Grant Watts and Aria's father Rod Bannister.
The two youngsters are the first Whanganui players chosen for a Central team of this ilk for several seasons, with the bulk of players usually coming from Manawatu and more recently Taranaki.
The tournament will be played at SquashGym Palmerston North on March 18.
