Britain's former world heavyweight champion, Herbie Hide, has been convicted of assaulting a civil servant in a nightclub, and sentenced to six month's home detention.
Hide, who held the World Boxing Organisation version of the title, has not fought for nearly 21 months and is under suspension by the British Boxing Board of Control's Southern Area Council because of the late-night fracas in Norwich, eastern England, last May.
To box again, Hide would also have to be medically cleared after being stopped in his last contest, a two-round WBO title defeat by Vitali Klitschko at the London Arena in June 1999.
