All Blacks great Richie McCaw has been to two events at the Rio Olympics so far...and he's witnessed two defeats. Now he's thinking of heading back home.
McCaw was on hand to watch the All Blacks sevens side suffer a shock 14-12 defeat to Japan in their opening pool game. He was also in the crowd when the women's hockey team, featuring his fiancée Gemma Flynn, lost 2-1 to Germany yesterday.
He told media in Rio today that he might be a curse.
"After what happened with the lads in the first game perhaps I am. I might have to leave," McCaw told TVNZ's Jack Tame.
"I know how tough these boys are, so I'm sure they'll bounce back."
The New Zealand sevens side face Kenya in their second pool game at 8.30am.
McCaw missed the Black Sticks opening win against Korea when they put in a slick performance to win 4-1.
"I missed the first game which they played damn well. I then turned up and they lost. So perhaps I should have stayed away."
"You feel for them because you know what they are going through. They've won one, lost one so they're still in the hunt," McCaw added.
