Judoka Darcina Manuel has been eliminated from the Olympic women's under 57kg event after losing her round of 16 bout against former world number one Telma Monteiro.

Earlier this morning, Manual exacted sweet revenge for a defeat earlier in the year to beat Russian Irina Zabludina in the first round of competition.

The 23-year-old gained a narrow one point win - by yuko - over Zabludina who beat her in the gold medal match at the Pan American Open in Peru in March.

However, Manuel failed to find repeat success in the round of 16 with Monteiro showing her class. Portugal's number one is a five-time European Champion and four-time vice World Champion.
