Records have been broken, personal bests achieved and competition fierce on day one of the inaugural CrossFit Taurus New Zealand National Finals at Mystery Creek Events Centre in Hamilton.

Luke Fiso from Instinct Fitness is currently leading the RX Men after blitzing the field in Event 3 lifting an accumulative total of 3,650kg in a squat clean ladder, while Katie Robertson also from Instinct Fitness is heading up the RX Women.

Leading the Masters division are Mike Calver from Kotahi and Debbie Hutchings from CrossFit 4010.

The inaugural CrossFit New Zealand National Finals is a two day competition where athletes are required to perform a range of functional exercises, incorporating Olympic weight training, gymnastics and cardio

Michael Gillum, CrossFit Taurus trainer and New Zealand Nationals organiser, says the competition has exceeded all expectations. "Day one has been epic. All of the competitors have really raised their game and we've had a number of personal bests achieved.

The leader board is tight so tomorrow is going to make for a very exciting day.

Nathan Cox, Dynamo Events Director and co-organiser, says the Nationals have been well received by both competitors and spectators. "For an inaugural event, we have been absolutely stoked with the level of competition. The athletes have really brought their best game to the weekend and are putting on a fantastic display of athleticism for the spectators to enjoy.

"There's also fierce rivalry between regions as well which is great to see, as well as intense competition taking place amongst the teams. It's a great atmosphere."

The competation concludes today.
