It's not the blind date they hoped for but two Wellington women have found a couple of men to watch the Super Rugby final with.
Hurricanes fans Suzie Carrig and Felicity Mortimer, both in their mid 30s, auctioned two tickets to tomorrow's match on Trade Me - joking over a few wines that it could be the "perfect blind date".
"As much as we would like a couple of really nice, professional, Hurricane-supporting single guys to enjoy the night with us, the most important thing is the winner of this auction is fun and doesn't mind us yelling, swearing and drinking, cause we will be sitting right next to you," the Trade Me listing said.
The auction closed last night and the winner, for $460, was a 52-year-old married man who will bring along his 20-year-old son.
His relationship status hasn't crossed Ms Carrig's find.
"I'm 35. He's 20. There's just no way... The ad was a bit tongue in cheek and it would have been great if we'd had a couple of single guys we could have partied with," she said.
"In an ideal world we could have had two hot men to take us to the rugby. It's not necessarily an ideal world really."
Ms Carrig and Ms Mortimer decided to sell the tickets online after the guys they planned to go with were called to Christchurch for work.
They also wanted some control over who they were sitting next to after last week' semifinal against the Brumbies. At that game, Ms Carrig said, a woman next to her talked through the match and laughed at her when she was yelling and screaming support.
"We were looking for a couple of great people to share a history making match with. That's what it came down to. Rather than just being the two of us - the more the merrier.
"At the end of the day we really didn't care who came, we just wanted a couple of passionate rugby people to be sitting next to," Ms Carrig said.
So far she had been in touch with the auction winners by email.
Ms Carrig wasn't sure exactly what her plans were tomorrow night, saying she was in for a busy weekend as she was also moving house.
