Marina Erakovic has missed a golden chance of moving through to the fourth round at Wimbledon after she was beaten 1-6 7-5 6-3 by Great Britain's Laura Robson overnight (NZT).

The 25-year-old was serving for the match at 5-4 in the second set but nerves seemed to take hold as she double faulted and it sparked a turnaround in fortunes. She double faulted twice in the next service game to hand Robson the initiative she never got back.

To cap off a miserable day, Erakovic and partner Cara Black were also ousted in the second round of the doubles, beaten 7-6 7-6 by Canadian Eugenie Bouchard and Croatia's Petra Martic.

Erakovic was looking to progress to the fourth round of a grand slam for the first time in her career - she made it to the third round of Wimbledon in 2008 as well as this year's French Open - and had a great chance against a player ranked 33 places ahead of her at 38. She would have avoided one of the top players in the fourth round had she won considering Robson will now take on the 46th-ranked Kaia Kanepi of Estonia.

Erakovic convincingly won the first set in just 22 minutes as Robson struggled in front of a packed home crowd on court two and led 5-3 in the second set before she lost eight-straight games. Erakovic staged a mini-comeback in the final set from 4-0 down as Robson faulted but the Briton clinched the match with a forehand winner.

Erakovic can at least reflect on some recent good form as well as a healthy bank account. She will pocket NZ$135,577 from her week's work in both singles and doubles and her year's earnings are already at $538,205.

Her form in the doubles, where she has enjoyed good success with Black, has played a significant hand in the resurgence in her singles game and she can now expect to jump further up from her present singles ranking of 71. Her highest ranking in singles was 39 in May 2012.
