Young New Zealand shot put sensation Jacko Gill has broken the world record in the under-18 age group.

On the eve of his 17th birthday, Gill has thrown the youth 5kg shot 24.45 metres on Auckland's North Shore tonight, reported Newstalk ZB.

That betters the previous world under-18 record by 10 centimetres.

In the senior class tonight he threw 20.08 metres, failing to match his Olympic qualifying 20.38 metre mark he threw earlier this month.
