Rotorua dog owners have less than a week to renew their dog registrations.
The last day for registration for the 2017/18 year is Monday, after which a 50 per cent penalty could be added to the registration fee.
There are about 11,843 known dogs in the Rotorua district with 66 per cent of owners who have already registered their pets.
There are still 4027 dogs that need to be registered before the end of this month.
Animal control supervisor Kevin Coutts said leaving registration to the last minute often lead to owners forgetting.
