Rotorua's Tyson Sykes lost his overnight fight at the Asia/Oceania Olympic qualifiers in China.

Sykes lost on points to Tukmenistan opponent Aziz Achilov in the overnight fight in Qian'an.

The 27-year-old, who competed in the light heavyweight division, needed to finish in the top three to qualify for Rio.3-0 on points to Turkmenistan opponent Aziz Achilov.

Tyson is trained by his father Mike Sykes and he trains out of his father's gym in Western Heights.
