The Rotorua District Library played host to an excited crowd yesterday for the launch of ROTORUA RETROtwo, a collection of 40 early memories of Rotorua compiled by Alison Brown and Ynys Fraser.
Ms Brown said the launch was a good opportunity for contributors to RETROone and RETROtwo, for potential authors of future publications, and all those who had helped in the production of this book, to meet each other.
"Ynys is 97 years old. She came [to Rotorua] as a 2-year-old. That means she's been here for 95 years. She is the inspiration behind the project and was a key personality at the launch, as colourful a character as ever," she said.
"You'll note from the acknowledgments at the back that goodwill has abounded and assistance has been extensive, making RETROone truly home grown - a book about the Rotorua District and by the people who live here. And it's just the second of a series. Our list of potential contributors to RETROthree exceeds 30 " and it's growing."
Copies of ROTORUA RETROone were available at a discounted price to celebrate the launch and are now available to buy from McLeods Booksellers for $29.99.
