International "baby guru" Dorothy Waide - who has supported celebrity parents such as Catherine Zeta-Jones and Russell Crowe - will be presenting a show in Rotorua next month.
Her visit will include a two-part event organised by Rotorua Parents Centre. The main presentation will take place at 7.30pm on Sunday, April 12 at the Energy Events Centre. The following day, she will host breakout sessions for ticket holders at Linton Park Community Centre.
Waide is a baby sleep specialist and karitane with almost 30 years' experience in baby nursing and sleep-settling in homes within New Zealand and internationally.
"We received requests from people who had been through our antenatal classes that they would love Dorothy to come to Rotorua to present a show," said Parents Centre Childbirth Education co-ordinator Caraline Abbott. "It's taken months of organising but we're all set to go."
Topics covered will include sleeping, settling and feeding plus tips on how to filter out some of the less helpful information that new parents are offered. Waide believes that sleep is just as important as food and both are nutrients required to grow healthy children.
Waide has previously supported celebrity parents and has featured in national magazines including Woman's Weekly and New Idea.
"The idea behind the breakout sessions is that smaller groups with similar issues can get together and work through some positive parenting solutions. It will be a great way to interact with other new parents and find some support."
The general admission price is $35 although Rotorua Parents Centre members receive a discount of $10. Tickets can be collected from the Parents Centre playgroup at LPCC on Fridays between 9.30am and 11.30am (cash only) or by emailing Rotorua@parentscentre.org.nz.
Funds raised will be put back into the community through Rotorua Parents Centre's antenatal classes, postnatal support groups and parent education.
