Carlos Spencer faces assault complaint

Police are investigating a complaint from a man who claims All Black Carlos Spencer assaulted him at a Tauranga bar last weekend.

Spencer was among a group of All Blacks celebrating the opening of a new bar owned by former All Black Adrian Cashmore.

The alleged victim went to the Tauranga police station early on Sunday, said Senior Sergeant Glenn Saunders.

He returned on Sunday afternoon and made a formal complaint.

"There's been an allegation of assault made against Carlos Spencer. It is purely an allegation at this stage and we will be following it up."
