A former Auckland Council boss said he would rather drink his own urine than make a change to his business, a council meeting heard today.
Auckland councillor Penny Hulse told today's finance committee that former Watercare chief executive Mark Ford, who died in 2014, said he would rather drink his own urine than accept stormwater into Watercare.
She told the story to stress it could take a big structural change for Watercare to add stormwater to its business of providing water and wastewater services.
A "three waters" value for money review of water services has identified $300 million of potential savings, much of which would come from amalgamating Watercare's water and wastewater services and council's stormwater working services.
The review found significant value had been delivered in water services since the Super City came into being in 2010, but further significant savings could be made.
