A man was flown to hospital with a life-threatening injury after he stabbed himself while skinning a pig.
The Trustpower TECT Rescue Helicopter was dispatched to Te Kaha Medical Centre at 1pm today after a 24-year-old local man accidentally stabbed his upper leg while skinning a pig.
Pilot Todd Dunham said the man hit one of the major vessels in his thigh, a potentially life-threatening injury.
The man was stabilised by St John paramedics and a local doctor before being flown to Tauranga Hospital for further treatment.
The helicopter was called due to the nature of the injury and distance to the required hospital.
