Police have released photos of the unforgiving landscape they're continuing to search in the hunt for two missing men nearly a week after the pair got lost.
The men ran in to the Tongariro National Park last Saturday to escape police pursuing them because they'd allegedly been driving a stolen vehicle.
No further items of interest have been found today, despite police officers, the National Dive Squad, LandSAR and a rescue helicopter being used to scour the bush and streams.
However police say they're still determined to find the men and will continue searching tomorrow.
Aerial images captured from the chopper used by the search management team at Taupo Police Station to take a fresh look at the area show how dense the bush is.
Inspector Tony Jeurissen said rescuers had today been planning another extensive search for tomorrow.
The dive squad will continue to aid the search effort and more resources had been called in to help.
"Unfortunately, [the missing men] have still not been found but today's work has identified further areas of interest," Jeurissen said.
"For the seventh day, more LandSAR volunteers will be arriving, including returned searchers and those who are new to this operation."
The search is taking place on Ngati Tuwharetoa land and Jeurissen said police wanted to thank representative members of the iwi, police staff and volunteers for their help.
"We all remain determined to bring these two men home to their whanau."
