Police have confirmed they are treating the death of an Auckland woman as suspicious.

Police were called to the Aurora Ave home of Eunice Ann Lyttle, 55, about 11.50am yesterday.

Detective Inspector Aaron Pascoe said an investigation into her death was now under way.

"A post mortem was carried out yesterday and a scene examination is expected to be completed today.

"Police are now treating the death as suspicious, however, we still have a number of enquiries to make and are working to piece together Eunice's movements before her death."

Pascoe said police were keeping "an open mind" as to what may have happened.

"At this early stage in our investigation we are unable to provide any further comment."

Part of the street was taped off yesterday as forensic investigators examined the scene.
