A van fleeing police has crashed into a bus, which was carrying passengers, on Khyber Pass Rd in Auckland.

No one on board the bus was hurt, a police spokeswoman said, but the van's driver was seriously injured and a passenger in the vehicle had moderate injuries.

Emergency services were called to the scene around 10.10pm.

The Serious Crash Unit was investigating, the spokeswoman said.

Northern fire service communications shift manager Megan Rurur said two people were trapped in the collision, but had been freed by firefighters.

A St John Ambulance spokeswoman said ambulances took two patients to Auckland City Hospital around 10.45pm. One was in a critical condition and the other had serious injuries.

The crash occurred at the intersection of Crowhurst and Khyber Pass Rds, the St John spokeswoman said.

Police said Khyber Pass Rd was closed between Crowhurst Rd and Broadway. Diversions were in place.
