Two people have been injured -- one critically -- in a two-car crash in the Waikato tonight.

Emergency services are at the scene of an accident on Gordonton Road, in Gordonton. The crash happened about 8pm.

St John confirmed two people have been taken to Waikato Hospital for treatment.

One person is in a critical condition, while the other has moderate injuries.

Police said part of Gordonton Road has been blocked off and diversions are in place at Puketaha Road and Borman Road -- as well as at Boyd and Sainsbury roads.

Motorists are urged to drive carefully, avoid the area or expect delays.
