The Rotorua-based BayTrust Rescue Helicopter was dispatched to a farm near Tumunui (South of Rotorua) late this morning.

A 55-year-old Tauranga woman had fallen from her horse as been knocked unconscious.

The woman was comforted by other riders in the "hunt" until the rescue chopper arrived.

Treatment was provided by the on board St John medical crew and the woman stabilised for an airlift to Rotorua Hospital.

She was in a comfortable condition upon arrival at Rotorua.
