Auckland Council is investigating after a schoolboy was jumped on by a German Shepherd dog yesterday.

The boy, 8, was at Edmonton Primary School in Te Atatu yesterday morning when a dog jumped on him and began pulling at his jacket.

A teacher pulled him away, but the boy suffered a large scratch across his left shoulder.

Council animal management manager, Geoff Keber, confirmed it had been called to the school.

He said paramedics also attended and a parent took the young boy home.

Two dogs were seized and taken to the Henderson Animal shelter.

An investigation is ongoing.
