A direct pathway for Indian students to attend New Zealand universities has been unveiled.

Tertiary Education Minister Steven Joyce and Indian President Pranab Mukherjee announced the creation of the New Zealand Excellence Awards at Auckland University of Technology.

The awards will see all eight New Zealand universities offer a combined total of 35 scholarships to Indian students.

The scholarships will be targeted towards industries with skill shortages, such as IT and engineering.
