Mr Hosking's son dented a car, requiring money for repairs. That meant he had to fork out for the damages on his son's behalf.
While he paid, he wasn't going to let his son get away with it that easy.
Mr Hosking put his son to work on a farm for a week, sunrise to sunset, to earn enough money to pay his parents back.
In an online poll run by nzherald.co.nz, asking whether his approach was fair or not, 95 per cent of the 20,545 people who voted agreed with his actions.
