The forestry worker killed in northern Hawke's Bay yesterday has been named.

Blair David Palmer, 53, from Napier, was an experienced forestry foreman who had worked in the industry for a long time, police said.

He died when a tree fell on him at the Pohokura forest block inland from Tutira, north of Napier.

Worksafe New Zealand is investigating.
