One injured in jet-ski blast

One person suffered burns after a jet ski exploded in a factory in South Auckland tonight.

Callers to 111 reported seeing an explosion from the direction of the site at Atkinson Ave, Otahuhu, around 9.30pm.

Fire Service spokesman Jaron Philips said the injured person was taken by ambulance to Middlemore Hospital in a moderate condition.

The blast caused the jet ski to burst into flames inside the building where it was stored, Mr Philips said.

"It was on fire inside a shed, and the shed was attached to other buildings," he said.

Firefighters "managed to contain it [the fire] pretty quickly".
