A Napier teenager faces 40 charges after more than two years of alleged torture of a young woman, including claims of rape, detaining her in a room with an aggressive dog and burning her with a hot wire brand and cigarettes.
The 19-year-old appeared before a JP in Hastings District Court on Saturday, when there was no application for bail and he was remanded in custody without pleas until his next appearance early next month.
Offences are alleged to have happened between April 2013 and September last year.
Court documents list one charge of rape, five of other sexual violation, one of indecent assault, three of wounding with intent to injure, 10 of injuring with intent to injure, five of assault with a weapon, three of threatening to kill, one of threatening to cause grievous bodily harm, 10 of assaulting a female, and one of alarming with intent to intimidate.
The injuring charges include allegations that he assaulted the woman with a variety of household items, including a knife, a plate, a cup, and a Playstation control, that he poured hot wax on her and that he bit and kicked her.
