I was surprised on a recent trip to the US to discover very few retailers still using plastic bags. Instead, lovely eco-friendly brown paper bags seem to be the norm. Why are we - clean, green New Zealand - again lagging behind on our environmental protection measures? Rejecting plastic bags is a simple step we can all make to reduce our collective footprint.

When so much you hear about supermarkets is quite negative, two thumbs up to the green brand for this idea!

All the hype surrounding the new electric trains comes to a rather painful end, the rear end to be precise, when you actually have to ride on them on a full journey from Papakura to Britomart. The seats are so hard and uncomfortable compared to the older diesel trains they have replaced. Those who bought the trains obviously don't have to use them themselves.

Got up early in the morning to go to the airport to welcome home the ABs. Thank you for the welcome presence of Airport Security and the police. Rave for Auckland Airport for providing free parking for AB fans. Rave for the ABs after a 24-hour flight for taking the time to talk to fans. Black Magic! (Sorry about the rain).

Important fact for all who do not know - "Baby on Board" stickers serve a purpose. If there is a an accident this sticker lets the Fire Service, police etc know there is possibly a small child in the vehicle who may have been thrown from the vehicle and will be hard to spot. It's not just to say "hey world, check me out, I procreated!"

Many thanks to all the patient commuters stuck behind us on Wednesday morning on the Northern Motorway when we broke down in our blue Mark 3 Zephyr on the way to a mate's funeral. The help we received from the motorcyclist and truck driver to push us across two lanes of heavy traffic and rain to the safety of the bus lane and also to Laurie who assisted us with his jumper leads, we can't thank you all enough.
