DNA could be the key to solving a 21-year-old rape and kidnapping mystery.
A 48-year-old Canterbury man was charged on Thursday in relation to a home invasion and sexual violation of a woman that allegedly occurred on May 9, 1994 in the Christchurch suburb of Burwood.

police made the breakthrough in the cold case after a suspected DNA match.
However, Canterbury Police refused to comment on the DNA link today, saying that the case was before the courts.
The man appeared from custody at Christchurch District Court this morning.
