A Christchurch man was left with a knife protruding from his skull, after a domestic dispute with his partner, police say.
Senior Sergeant Stephen McDaniel said police attended the domestic incident just after midnight.
When they arrived at the New Brighton address they found that in the heat of an argument a woman had allegedly thrown a knife at her partner.
The knife had lodged itself just above the man's forehead, he said.
The man was taken to Christchurch Hospital and has now been discharged.
"The knife has since been successfully removed and he is recovering," said Mr McDaniel.
The woman is set to appear in Christchurch District Court tomorrow, and has been charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
