A woman out jogging was killed by a car thought to be overtaking in Taranaki.
Police said Deanne Cooper, 36, of Hawera, was running on Ohangai Rd in the town yesterday evening when she was hit.
Initial indications were that the car was overtaking a ute or four-wheel drive when the car hit her.
The driver stopped and gave her first aid but she died at the scene.
"We are working to determine what factors have led to the crash and it is too early at this stage to comment on any charges, Acting Senior Sergeant Robyn Burnett said.
"Officers are speaking to the car driver and also want to speak to the driver of the 4WD or ute as they are a key witness. We also want to speak to anyone that may have witnessed the crash or has any other information.
Anyone with information was asked to contact police on 06 215 5276 or anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
