4.5 quake shakes South Island

An earthquake described as strong by GeoNet struck about 60km south of Tuatapere, at the bottom of the South Island, this evening.

The 4.5 magnitude quake, which was only 6km deep, struck at 8.54pm.

There were no immediate reports of damage.
