A car lost control and careered off a West Coast bridge, smashing upside down on to rocks on the Waimakariri River bed and injuring two people.
The accident happened yesterday afternoon at the Bealey Bridge on State Highway 73.
Two of the car's four occupants were flown to Christchurch Hospital.
The Christchurch and Greymouth rescue helicopters were called to the scene, at the Bealey Bridge on State Highway 73. West Coast pilot Angus Taylor said the Greymouth machine was first to the scene and paramedics on board took care of the two injured people.
