A 30-year-old Blenheim man has been charged with arson following a suspicious house fire last night.

The blaze at the Wither Hills house address about 7pm and gutted the house.

Two vehicles also suffered extensive damage in the blaze.

No one was home at the time, police say.

The man was remanded in custody to appear in the Blenheim District Court tomorrow.

The Fire Service and police are still investigating.

Police were looking for a black puffer jacket that may have been dumped in the Witherlea area.

"It appears that someone may have picked it up," police said.
