Police have confirmed that a body found today is that of Dannevirke man William Kerry Power, who went missing on Tuesday.

A police search and rescue team found the body near his home about 10am.

Mr Power was last seen by a family member about 10pm on Tuesday and police today began searching the wider area around the property.

Senior Sergeant Nathan Davis, of Tararua police, said two search and rescue teams made up of staff from Palmerston North, Wanganui, and Levin, as well as a police dog, were involved in the extensive ground search.

The death was not being treated as suspicious and would be referred to the coroner in due course.
