• Thomas Preston, a serial offender on the website Gumtree, says he lives in Britain and wants to rent his Kiwi condo. He offers many extras in the $1,100-a-month rent. He says people must first deposit $2,200 into a "rental company" account.

• An ad in the Otago Daily Times offers a $40,000 caravan for $12,500. But the seller wants people to pay for it before they have seen it, saying: "The only way that we can close this deal is to make the transaction through eBay Motors Australia and New Zealand group."
