Motorcyclist killed south of Christchurch

A man is dead after his motorbike crashed in Canterbury today.

Southern police communications spokesman Peter Hegarty said the crash happened on State Highway One at Dunsandel, 40km south west of Christchurch, about 9am.

It was a single vehicle crash and the man was the only person on the motorbike, he said.

Police were investigating the cause of the crash.
