Police are investigating the death of a toddler run over by a ute in a Waikato paddock on Saturday.
The 10-month-old boy suffered fatal injuries in the incident near Ngaruawahia.
A police spokesman said the serious crash unit was investigating the tragedy. It was understood a utility vehicle had been driving around the paddock when it struck the boy.
The spokesman would not give further details.
Waikato road policing manager Inspector Marcus Lynam said police were called to Waikato Hospital shortly before 10pm on Saturday.
"The boy's death has been referred to the coroner and at this time police would like to extend their sympathies to the family,'' he said.
