A man who is serving time for raping a school girl has been sentenced for assaulting two prison guards.

Logan Pearce was handed nine more years in jail in the Hamilton District Court today for attacking two guards while trying to escape with another inmate in July.

He was already serving seven and a half years for raping a school girl two years ago.

Judge Merelina Burnett said both guards had suffered psychological damage since the attacks and Mr Pearce remains a risk to the community.
