A Dunedin man on a weekend fishing trip in Kahurangi National Park had to be airlifted to hospital after suffering chest pains.
The 63-year-old man and a friend set off a personal locator beacon near the Karamea Bend Hut in the large Tasman District park last night.
The signal was picked up by the Rescue Coordination Centre in Wellington and the Nelson Marlborough Rescue Helicopter was sent to help.
The men were located using the helicopter's on-board tracker system.
A paramedic treated the man with chest pains and took him to Nelson Hospital with his fishing companion.
