A chemical leak forced the evacuation of Auckland's newly opened Tepid Baths this afternoon.

A fire communications spokesman said they were called to the incident in the CBD around 1.30pm, Newstalk ZB reported.

Staff told fire crews they had spilt about 50 litres of chlorine from a 2000 litre container.

70 people were evacuated and nearby streets were closed as fire crews worked to contain the spill.
