Police used pepper-sprayed to stop a speeding driver understood to be two times over the legal breath alcohol limit.
Police sprayed the teenage driver through the window of a moving vehicle this morning after pursuing the car when it drove away from a random alcohol testing station on Baldrock Rd, between State Highway 1 and Mangawhai, Radio New Zealand reported.
The vehicle slowed before speeding away when officers approached, said police. Pepper spray was used to finally stop the car.
The driver was found to have 933 micrograms of alcohol per litre of breath and several charges of dangerous driving and drink driving have been laid, RNZ reported.
