A keeper at Auckland Zoo has been swiped over the face by a cheetah.

The incident happened over the weekend at an encounter session.

A zoo spokeswoman said the keeper's microphone crackled, which gave the animal a fright.

She said it then batted the staff member on the face.

The zoo keeper was left with a couple of grazes to her face but did not need to go to hospital.

A similar incident happened at the zoo in January.
