Both days fall on April 25 this year, but according to the latest Fly Buys/Colmar Brunton Mood of the New Zealand Traveller Survey, more than half the respondents replied "Anzac Day is more
personally significant than Easter Monday".
The survey, released by the Tourism Industry Association New Zealand, looked into how people plan to spend their Easter long weekend.
It also found 65 per cent of New Zealanders believe the Government should follow Australia in giving people another day off work when the two days fall on the same day.
Among respondents, 51 per cent felt Anzac Day is more personally significant than Easter Monday, 28 per cent said both occasions are equally significant, 11 per cent said Easter Monday is more significant to them, while 9 per cent replied neither is personally significant.
This weekend, 49 percent plan to stay at home, while a third plan to spend at least one night away. The average number of nights people plan to be away is four.
Of those intending on travelling over Easter, 65 per cent want to see friends and family, 36 per cent want to head to the beach, 28 per cent want to do as little as possible, 27 per cent want to shop, 25 per cent want to do something active, 18 per cent want to "soak up a little culture or education along the way", 17 per cent want to include a winery in their holiday, 14 per cent want to organise an Easter egg hunt, 13 per cent would like to "eat so much chocolate they feel sick", and 11 per cent want to play or watch sport.
