Tamils protest

About 200 Sri Lankan Tamils living in New Zealand took to the streets in Botany to protest against their homeland Government's failure to uphold human rights and its lack of action against violence.

In Sri Lanka, the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam have been fighting since 1983 to carve out an independent homeland for minority Tamils in the north and east.

Protest organiser Nirupa George said the protest was held to raise awareness of the harsh reality of life and injustice Tamils in Sri Lanka face.
